Why Direct Primary Care?

To be honest, we didn’t start out to create a Direct Primary Care pediatric clinic!

But we did set out dreaming of creating the pediatric clinic we all imagined when we first went into medicine – one where the relationship between us and our patient families was paramount, where we could spend time getting to know our patients and really addressing the root causes of their concerns, and where we could take the time to practice the very best evidence-based pediatric medicine.

We got pretty far down the road of creating our dream clinic before realizing… it just isn’t possible under the current health insurance system.  Too much of how doctors spend their day is dictated by insurance rules: how frequently patients can be seen for certain conditions, what diagnoses are covered, what kind of documentation is needed, how many patients need to be seen in a day just to afford to keep the lights on.

When we went back to the drawing board on how to make our dream a reality, we discovered Direct Primary Care.  This model eliminates insurance middlemen in the primary care setting, putting the relationship between the patient and their care team back in the center where it belongs.  The more we learned, the more we realized this could make our dream a reality!

In a DPC clinic, patients pay an affordable monthly subscription fee that covers all routine preventive care, sick visits, care for chronic conditions, and in-office labs. No more surprise co-pays or deductibles to meet! Even better, in many cases, the total out-of-pocket cost can be lower over the course of a year than if we were billing insurance, especially for families who are able to take advantage of cost savings via an HSA or by switching to a higher-deductible insurance plan that lowers your monthly premiums.

Because we keep our patient numbers much lower, we are able to offer abundant same- or next-day appointments and direct access to Dr. Mills, Dr. Broadman, and Cassie, which also makes it less likely you’ll end up paying for expensive Urgent Care or ER visits.

Most importantly, this model means we can spend more time getting to know your family and spending time on the issues that matter most to you.

This is old-fashioned medical care where your doctor really knows you!
